According to reports, Goyal’s resignation from Urban Company’s board of directors is directly linked to Blinkit’s plan to enter Urban Company’s territory of home services.
A source familiar with the matter told Entracker that Blinkit has already started offering home chef services through ChefKart, a company based in Gurugram. However, it hasn’t been decided yet what will be the shape and form of the foray. It may just involve advertising on the Blinkit platform, or it could involve providing carpenters, plumbers, electricians, and other service partners for home services.
There is also no clarity yet on which specific services will be offered. Entrackr was the first to report on these developments. Blinkit is planning to compete one-on-one with Urban Company, the segment leader in this category.
Zomato has launched a new service called ‘Zomato Everyday’, which offers food that tastes like home. The company claims that this food is cooked by “real home-chefs” at affordable prices. Zomato has piloted multiple new services over the past year, even as industry experts predict that the growth of the food delivery sector, which is primarily concentrated in metro cities, will slow down.
While Zomato’s gross order value increased 85% year-on-year to INR 5,500 crore in Q3 FY22, growth slowed to 21% between Q3 FY22 and Q3 FY23. In January, Zomato reintroduced its ‘Gold’ loyalty program with a focus on food delivery at an introductory price of INR 149 for three months. The program also allows users to receive discounts for dining at restaurants.
