JAIPU: In a first for assembly elections in Rajasthan, polling would take place for 11 hours instead of the usual nine hours, stated a notification issued by the Election Commission of India on Monday.
“The ECI fixes the hours from 7am to 6pm, as the hours during which the poll shall, if necessary be taken on the date (November 25) specified above, for the election,” the notification added.
During the 2018 assembly elections in the state, polling took place from 8am to 5pm but in the last bypoll – held in Sardarshahar assembly constituency of Churu district on December 5, 2022 – polling went on for 11 hours. tnn
