NEW DELHI: Upping the ante against the Modi government over the December 13 security breach in Lok Sabha, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Saturday said unemployment and inflation were the reasons that drove the youth to resort to such extreme steps, reports Swati Mathur.
“We know the security breach happened. But the question is why it happened. The biggest issue in the country right now is unemployment. It is on the boil and it is as a result of PM Modi’s policies that the youth of India are not getting employment opportunities,” Gandhi said.He reiterated the charge of growing frustration among the country’s youth. “Where are the jobs? The youth are desperate. We have to focus on this issue and give jobs to the youth…There has definitely been a security lapse, but the reason behind it is the country’s biggest issue – unemployment,” Gandhi posted on X.
His reaction, the first since the December 13 episode when two intruders jumped into the Lok Sabha chamber armed with smoke canisters, followed opposition protests demanding a statement in the House by home minister Amit Shah, followed by a discussion.
Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge alleged the breach was a serious issue but Shah was unwilling to respond in Parliament.
The party’s organisation general secretary K C Venugopal said the Delhi Police, which is governed by the home ministry, had described the breach as a “terror attack” in a local court and the opposition parties only demanded a discussion on the issue in Parliament.
