The director behind ‘Scream 7,’ Christopher Landon reveals he bid adieu to the project a few weeks back. The brain behind the quirky thriller ‘Happy Death Day’ was all set to make his mark on the ‘Scream’ franchise after being announced in August.
His directorial baton was to be passed on from Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, the duo who steered the ship for 2022’s ‘Scream 5’ and this year’s ‘Scream VI.’ They were all set to be the executive maestros for the next instalment.
But, as fate would have it, following the exit of notable figures like Jenna Ortega, Melissa Barrera, and Neve Campbell, Landon decided to join the departure party. He stated, “I guess now is as good a time as any to announce I formally exited ‘Scream 7’ weeks ago. This will disappoint some and delight others. It was a dream job that turned into a nightmare. And my heart did break for everyone involved. Everyone. But it’s time to move on.”

In this abrupt turn of events, ‘Scream 7’ finds itself not just without a captain steering the ship but also missing many of its leading stars. Barrera’s exit, triggered by her dismissal due to pro-Palestine social media posts, led to a fan uproar, with calls for boycotting ‘Scream VII’ and solidarity from other cast members.
Meanwhile, Ortega, caught up in the whirlwind of other projects, opted out of reprising her role as Tara Carpenter.
