NEW DELHI: Indian benchmark indices, BSE Sensex and Nifty50 edged lower in trade on Friday. While Sensex fell 15.44 points, or 0.02%, to close at 73,142.80 points with 17 of its constituents closing in the red and 13 in the green, Nifty50 closed lower by 4.75 points or 0.02 per cent at 22,212.70.
Adani Wilmar, IRCTC, Bajaj Finserv, Mahindra & Mahindra, Titan, L&T and Wipro were among top gainers while Bank of Baroda, IOCL, HCLTech, Asian Paints, Maruti, JSW Steel, TCS, SBI, ITC and Bharti Airtel were the major losers.
BSE Midcap advanced at 0.25 per cent while Smallcap rose by 0.53 per cent.
In the early trade, Key equity indices rose with the Sensex rising by nearly 100 points. This uptrend was fueled by a global rally in stocks, which boosted investor sentiments and among the Nifty constituents, 32 shares were trading in the green.
Nifty closed at all time high level by gaining 180.1 points to 22,235.15 on Thursday, while Sensex increased by 535.15 points to close at 73,158.24.
IT stocks jumped 1.94% after shedding 2.8% in a three-session losing run. HCLTech, Tech Mahindra, Wipro, L&T, TCS and Maruti were among the top Nifty gainers.
Globally, Hong Kong shares closed lower on Friday, following record highs in Japanese, US, and European markets driven by surging tech shares.
