Uttarakhand Disaster Management Secretary Ranjit Sinha on January 24 said that an inspection would take place to check the effects of earthquake tremor on cracks. He further added that the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) has visited the site to check the work of the bypass roads according to Border Roads Organisation (BRO). “Water discharge has increased in Joshimath due to recent rainfall and snowfall. There is no need to worry. BRO has said that a team of MoRTH has visited the site to inspect whether or not work on bypass road can be started. The model of pre-fabricated houses for rehabilitation will soon be completed. A number of private companies have shown interest in developing pre-fabricated houses. Low-intensity tremors were felt in Joshimath today. No buildings were damaged. The survey team will assess the situation. We have to see if today’s earthquake has widened the existing cracks in buildings or not,” Ranjit Sinha said in Dehradun.
