Alexa Shopping List Savings, Earn Credit for In-Store Purchases
Earlier this year, Amazon quietly launched a new feature designed to give Alexa a boost when it comes to shopping. You can ask Alexa to add items to your shopping list, so you can use it when you get to your your local grocery store. And now you can also earn Amazon credit for some of those purchase.
The new feature, Alexa Shopping List Savings (affiliate link here and below), gives you rebate offers from brands and manufacturers through the Alexa app. These offers show up in the Alexa Shopping List section within the app and then can be used across retail stores nationwide. They are brand specific, and not limited to any stores.
To use the feature, you’d first select the offers of interest and activate them in the app, then visit your favorite grocery store, drug store, or chain store to buy the product. When you’ve completed your purchase, you claim the rebate by taking a photo of the store receipt that shows the store’s name, location, date and time of purchases, product price and total, then submit it to Amazon through the app. You might also need to scan the barcode on the product itself to complete the process, which is similar to Ibotta and several other apps.
Once you submitted, Amazon will then send you the rebate in the form of Amazon Gift Card. This process take a couple of days usually. The Gift Card balance can be used to shop for eligible products on Amazon.
The good thing about this new feature is that the rebate you earn is already available for you to use on Amazon. So you don’t have to go and claim it. On the other hand, you’re sharing some of your personal information. The Amazon Shopping List Savings page that data from any information you upload and the offers you activate “may be shared with Amazon’s service providers.” That data will be used in accordance with Amazon’s privacy policy.
But if you use a grocery store loyalty card, you have likely entered into a similar data exchange, with many stores collecting and tracking customer data. With Amazon you might at least get some offers for products that you want.
