Upon sending an email to Twitter’s press team, The Independent (British online newspaper) received an immediate response with the same poop emoji.
This move is in line with Musk’s decision to do away with the press team at Tesla and firing Twitter’s press team during the company’s massive layoffs after he acquired it for a staggering $44 billion in October last year.
Twitter let go of roughly 50% of its 7,500 employees, leaving it with a staff of around 2,000, as Musk sought to reduce costs for the San Francisco-based company.
This is not the first instance where the entrepreneur has used the poop emoji in public.
Last July, Twitter cited posts by Mr. Musk, including one a single poop emoji, as evidence he had disparaged the company as he tried unsuccessfully to pull out of buying it.
Earlier this month, the Twitter CEO issued an apology after a humiliating exchange where he seemingly mocked a disabled employee. Musk had accused the worker of not doing any actual work and being “the worst” after he failed to get a response from him through other means. He later admitted to receiving bad information about the situation and personally apologized to the affected staff member during a video call.
Icelandic entrepreneur Halli Thorleifsson, who sold his company to Twitter and was voted as the country’s person of the year, had reached out to Musk via a public tweet after being locked out of his work computer system. He informed the billionaire he could not get HR to respond to him.
