The state government has selected 930 PhD candidates for a three-year stipend scheme. The Knowledge Consortium of Gujarat (KCG) will make an official announcement on Thursday. The selected candidates will be paid a total sum of Rs 4 lakh during the three year period.
Sources said that the state government had invited applications from PhD candidates through KCG for the year 2021-22. In response, the state government had received around 1,200 applications. Sources said that around 930 students are selected after scrutiny of their applications and financial backgrounds. The criterias for selection include candidates’ selection of research topics, the social benefits of that research and candidates’ financial backgrounds also.
As per the scheme, the state government gives a monthly stipend of Rs 15,000 to the selected candidates and Rs 20,000 as one time contingency fund. In total, every selected student is paid Rs 4 lakh in a three-year period. Sources said that the government will pay Rs 37.20 crore in total in 2021-22.
