NEW DELHI: Wholesale deliveries of cars and SUVs remained healthy in October on pending deliveries and ease in semiconductor supplies, though pressures of inflation and rising interest rates threaten to disrupt the momentum. On the two-wheeler side, companies are still saddled with demand challenges as the rise in cost of vehicles and pressures on rural economy continue to keep customer footfalls moderate.
Companies released wholesale dispatch numbers for October and overall sales are estimated at around 3. 4 lakh units for passenger vehicles, less than the 3. 5 lakh units sold in September, which factored in pre-festive units.
Maruti Suzuki reported a 29% growth in passenger vehicle sales in the month at 1. 4 lakh units. Shashank Srivastava, director (sales & marketing) at Maruti Suzuki, said there is a need to monitor factors such as inflation, lower liquidity, and expected hike in retail financing rates.
