BHUBANESWAR: Fakir Mohan University Balasore has opened an audio-visual studio at the journalism and mass communication department. University vice-chancellor Santosh Kumar Tripathy and Doordarshan Kendra Bhubaneswar director Badri Narayan Adhikari inaugurated the studio on Thursday in the presence of university officials and faculty members.
The studio has editing software, radio production works, lights, camera, multicamera production facility with audio video suits, computers and other equipment.
Tripathy while addressing the students said practical knowledge is as important as theory taught by the teachers in the classroom. “This studio will act as a training centre and laboratory for the journalism students. In future, experts from media and other related fields will come here and train the students to become industry-ready,” he added.
Bharatibala Pattanaik, head of Journalism and Mass Communication department of the university, said the studio will immensely help the students to get practical knowledge regarding handling of camera, presentation, recording audio and videos and other post-production works.
Adhikari spoke about today’s media scenario and discussed the latest development in the journalism sector. “Now new media has taken the place of instant media and gives news at fingertips as soon as possible. Media has a major role to play in developing a healthy society,” he added.
Two senior journalists from the state addressed the students via videoconferencing. Department’s mouthpiece ‘Manobhumi’ and newsletter were released on this occasion. Students staged a play after the meeting was over.
