Gandhi Jayanti is celebrated every year on October 02 to mark the birth anniversary of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, popularly known as Mahatma Gandhi or Gandhi Ji. He was an Indian lawyer, political ethicist and anti-colonial nationalist who employed non-violent resistance.

On the occasion of the Gandhi Jayanti, we all have gathered here to remember and celebrate the birth anniversary of the greatest man of all times, ‘Mahatma Gandhi’.
Born in the year 1869, at Porbandar, Gujarat. This year, the nation will remember Father of the Nation on his 153rd birth anniversary. His ideologies of Ahimsa and non-violence affected the lives of many great individuals like Martin Luther King Jr. and still do not fail to influence our lives today. For the people of India, he was ‘Bapu’ which means father. Subhash Chandra Bose entitled Mahatma Gandhi as the ‘Father of the Nation’. People also used to call him as ‘Mahatama’, meaning, the one with the greatest soul.
He finished his early studies in India of British era, and then went on to pursue higher education in England. After the completion of his studies, he returned to India to practice in the field of law, however he was unable to become a successful lawyer. Gandhi Ji then went to South Africa in the capacity of a lawyer to help a client. He spent many years in South Africa to work for the conditions of Indian people living there.
In 1915, he returned to India and became an integral part of freedom struggle. Just after two years of that, he led the campaign called ‘Champaran Satyagraha’, which was one of the landmark movements of India’s struggle for freedom.
On January 30, 1948, Mahatma Gandhi, in an unfortunate event, was assassinated by Nathuram Godse. However his teachings and ideas remained immortal. His life is an inspiration to the people not just in India but all around the world, as he used to say himself “My life is my message”.
