10 Advantages of Gmail
Gmail offers many key advantages. When you create a new Gmail, you can take advantage of sleek tools and features for your work or personal emails. Here are several of my favorites:
- Email Threading. An email thread lets you group related emails together in a conversational style. This feature is especially helpful for keeping project-related emails together. When you start a new Gmail account, it automatically uses threading. Learn more about how to thread emails here.
- Virus and Spam Checking. Virus and spam checking are included with your Gmail account at no extra charge. Gmail sorts suspected spam messages to the default Spam label. It’s a key feature as you make a new Gmail account for business to keep sensitive data safe.
- Free Email Storage. Store up to 15 GB of email messages in your Gmail account free of charge. If needed, you can buy extra storage for an affordable monthly fee.
- Gmail is Reliable. It rarely goes down. Ever missed a message because your email provider was down? Then you know how important reliability is. If email reliability is a must-have for your business, Gmail is a top choice.
- Integration. Google has more office suite tools such as Calendar, Docs, and Sheets that work well with Gmail. Having the business tools you need in one account is convenient.
- Simplify Multiple Emails. Like many small business owners, you may have more than one email account. Checking them all takes time. With forwarding and other tools, you can use Gmail to combine multiple accounts with ease.
- Customization. You can customize Gmail’s interface with an array of custom themes. Your inbox doesn’t have to look bland!
- Enhanced Productivity. Gmail includes a handy tasks to-do list that you can open from within the app! Having the task list tool integrated into your email account makes updating it a snap.
- Filters and Search. Gmail includes powerful filter tools that sort messages as you receive them. You can also use the Search function to find misplaced emails.
- Timesaving Shortcuts. When you start a new Gmail account, you’ll see that it’s incredibly user-friendly. What’s more: advanced users can enable keyboard shortcuts to save time.
These are just a few benefits of using Gmail for your small business! Now you’re ready to create a new Gmail account. Here’s how.
How to Create a New Google Account
It’s easy to learn how to create a Gmail account. In a few moments, you’ll be working with a new email address for your business. When you start a new Gmail account, you’ll be able to send and receive messages instantly. Let’s get started!
Gmail accounts are attached to Google accounts. You can have more than one Google account. But you can only set up one Gmail account for each Google account that you have.
Start from the Google search homepage, found at google.com. In the upper right, find the Sign In button.
Click on Sign In. You’ll be taken to the Sign In page. Here is where you can log into an existing Google account, if you’ve got one. But to see how to get new Gmail, you’ll want to create a new account from scratch. To do that, click Create Account down at the bottom of the screen.
You’ll be asked to choose from the following three options:
- For my personal use
- For my child
- For work or my business
These options vary based on the level of access and control that you’re given upon setup. For everyday use, For my personal use is a good choice, so we’ll select that for this tutorial example.
Step 1. Enter Your Information
On the Create a Google Account screen that opens, you’ll be asked for some basic information. Here is where we’ll create a new Gmail account for business. Start by following the prompts in the two boxes.
You’ll first be asked for your first name. Then, you can optionally input your last name.
Remember: if you’re creating an account for a business, you can use that name in the First Name box.
Type in your name, then add your birthday and gender on the following screen.
Input this information, then click Next. On the following screen, follow the prompts to add your birthday and gender. Once you’ve done these, click Next once again.
Step 2. Choose Your Gmail Address
With your credentials added, it’s time to choose your very own Gmail address. Here, you have a few options. You’ll first see auto-generated email ideas. These are randomly created, and can be based on your name, birthday, and more.
They’re a useful option, but you’ll often find them to be lengthy and not memorable. It’s usually best to select your own address. But you can also choose to Use Your Existing Email, if you want to link another email account to Google.
To add your own Gmail address, click Create Your Own Gmail Address. When you do, you’ll see a text box appear. In it, you can type in your own desired email address for Gmail!
Notice the prompt below. For your address, you’re allowed to use letters, numbers, and periods. Other characters like symbols aren’t able to be used. Similarly, addresses must be between six and thirty characters in length.
When you create your own address, you can create a custom email address where you can be reached. It’s how to get new Gmail that works perfectly for you.
Go ahead and type in an address that you’d like to use. When you’re ready, click Next. If the address is already taken by someone else, you’ll see an error message in red. If this happens, try a different combination of letters and numbers for your new email account name.
Step 3. Set a Strong Password and Verify Your Identity
Gmail prompts you to create a strong password. The ideal here is to use numbers, symbols, and letters.
Avoid using common words or basic inputs like your name or birthdate.
You’ll input your new password twice: once to choose it, and again to confirm it.
When you’ve completed this, click Next. You’ll be prompted to complete a quick security verification step. This is done by typing in your phone number and receiving a text message. When you type it in, choose Next. Then, input the verification code that you receive, and click Next again.
Now, you’ll be asked for recovery information, and to confirm your personal credentials. Verify these, then read and agree to the terms and conditions.
Boom. You’re all set! You’ve just learned how to start a new Gmail account. As you can see, it’s amazingly easy to create a new Gmail.
