In this tutorial, I will guide you through the steps of creating an Adobe InDesign address label template, specifically focusing on the popular Avery address label templates in InDesign. So let’s dive in and discover how to streamline your address labeling process using this powerful graphic design software.
What You’ll Need
1. How to Create Address Labels in InDesign
Step 1
Before we get started, make sure you download and open the Avery address label template in InDesign.
Step 2
Select the Type Tool (T) and type out your name and address on the first label. For the name, I will be using the font Emirad and Luxe Uno for the return address. Use these settings:
- The Johnsons: 40 pt
- Return Address: 13 pt
Make sure you use fonts that are legible.
Step 3
Use the Rectangle Frame Tool (F) and cover the shape of the first label.
Step 4
With the frame still selected, File > Place the watercolor background. Extend the edges of the frame using the Selection Tool (V) past the Avery address template so that when it’s printed, we don’t see any white edges.
Step 5
Open the Art Deco Border and Copy (Command-C) and Paste (Command-V) one of the elements into InDesign on either side of the label. Change the Opacity to 50% and apply a Gradient Feather by going to Object > Effects > Gradient Feather.
Step 6
Change the color of the blue swatch to C100 M90 Y10 K36. Change the font color of your name and return address to this new color.
Step 7
Select your text layers and art layers and go to Object > Group. Copy (Command-C) and Paste (Command-V) this group and add them to the other blank labels.
