Mangaluru: Kalkura Foundation and Karanatha Birthday Celebration Committee will bestow the year 2022 `Karantha Award’ on Dr K V Rao, Director, Pilikula Regional Science Centre for his immense contributions to the field of science.
The award would be presented to Rao here on October 10, stated Kalkura Foundation President Pradeep Kumar Kalkura. Rao, 78, born at Kote Village near Udupi, had his education at SVS High School Katapadi and BSc degree from MGM College, Udupi. After getting his post graduate degree in M.Sc. (Physics) from University of Mysore in 1967, he got his Ph.D. in Liquid Crystals under Prof. S Chandrashekar at Raman Research Institute, Bengaluru. He joined as a lecturer in Physics at St. Aloysius College in 1967 and rose to the position of Head Department in 1980. He was also the Director, College Development Council, Mangalore University.
An avid physicist, Rao conducted several programmes, seminars, conferences and workshops at District / State / National Level on various themes in Science and Technology. He was awarded the ‘Theo Mathias Award’ from All India Association for Christian Higher Education (AIACHE), New Delhi for popularising science and also state Level ‘Best Coordinator award’ for ‘know your environment programme’ of NCSTC, New Delhi.
