Bhubaneswar: The higher education department on Friday invited online applications from eligible students under Mukhyamantri Medhabi Chhatra Protsahan Yojana-Higher Education for the year 2023-24. Students of Odisha who are pursuing general courses, technical and professional courses can apply for the scholarship.
The new scheme encapsulates erstwhile scholarship initiatives like e-Medhabruti, Vyasakabi Fakir Mohan Bhasabruti and the Gopabandhu Sikhya Sahayata Yojana (GSSY).Undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) students are eligible for this scholarship.
Under e-Medhabruti scholarship, a UG student will get Rs 10,000 per annum for three years, whereas a PG student will get Rs 15,000 per annum for two years. Similarly, technical and professional students (both UG and PG) will get Rs 20,000 per annum during the course duration.
Government provides e-Medhabruti scholarship to 10,000 UG (three-year degree) students, 5,000 PG students and 10,000 students pursuing their technical and professional courses. To get the scholarship, the students should be permanent residents of Odisha and their annual parental income should not exceed Rs 8 lakh.
Vyasakabi Fakir Mohan Bhasabruti scholarship will be provided to 1200 UG students with Odia honours and 300 PG in Odia students. A student will receive one time assistance of Rs 20,000 for the entire course duration.
Eligible students will get a GSSY scholarship irrespective of getting any other scholarship. Annual financial support of Rs 20,000 is available for both UG and PG studies until the course is completed. The financial aid is available for all UG, PG and technical, non-technical, professional and non-professional courses offered by government recognised institutions or institutions set up by the statute of the Union or state government.
Online applications for students will remain open between December 2 and December 31. Principal or head of the institution will validate records of students from December 2 to January 15. District welfare officer (DWO) will validate the records of students who have applied for the GSSY, said the official sources.
