The project, supervised by the Department of Inspection for Factories and Establishments (DIFE) under the aegis of the Ministry of Labour and Employment (MoLE), is earmarked to receive funding up to €4 million, according to a press release.
Bangladesh and Germany have signed agreements to improve working conditions in Bangladeshi tanneries through the ‘Good Working Conditions in Tanneries (GOTAN)’ project.
Supervised by Bangladesh’s Department of Inspection for Factories and Establishments, it was funded with up to €4 million.
GOTAN intends to enhance adherence to occupational safety norms.
The initiative, slated for completion by April 30, 2025, envisages a strengthened institutional framework to foster better compliance with safety standards in the tanneries.
The agreement was inked by Sharifa Khan, the secretary of the Economic Relations Division (ERD) representing Bangladesh, and Andreas Kuck, the country director of GIZ, representing Germany in Bangladesh.
