Cambodia’s National Council on Minimum Wage recently decided that the new monthly minimum wage for garment, travel goods and bag industries is $202.
Prime Minister Hun Manet added an additional $2, making the figure $204 for 2024.
The wage now is $200 per month.
The decision was taken at an NCMW meeting chaired by labour and vocational training minister Heng Sour.
The decision was arrived at during an NCMW meeting chaired by labour and vocational training (MLVT) minister Heng Sour and attended by nearly 100 representatives of employer’s associations, labour unions and the MLVT ministry.
Sour said Manet will chair a forum of the government and the private sector in November this year to address the challenges and hardships that the minimum-wage industry is facing to maintain its competitiveness and reduce costs in maintaining production bases in the country, according to domestic media reports.
Manet has assigned the ministry to call for additional arrangements that will enable factories to take more care of the well-being of their workers at workplaces, Sour said.
