Boomers, born between 1946 and 1964, are worlds apart from millennials and Gen Z. In this new digital age, marked by meme culture, the influencer era, the AI boom, and rapidly shifting cultural norms, these generational differences are highlighted more than they’ve ever been before.
This battle of the generations is hilarious, thanks to some of the boomers’ bewildering and cringe-worthy statements.
1. “I Didn’t Know I Was Raising Three Girls.”
Boomers are often used to traditional gender roles and can’t seem to let them go. While there are several examples of this statement in use, here’s a funny one.
When hearing about his three sons enjoying tea, one boomer dad claimed that he didn’t know he raised three girls. But let’s be honest; we all enjoy a hot cup of tea regardless of gender.
2. “No One Wants To Work.”
The newer generations are bashed for not wanting to work but only wanting the money. This sentiment is downright repulsive as both millennials and Gen Z want to be paid for the value they’re putting in.
Wanting your wage to be able to fulfill your necessities should be obvious, don’t you think?
3. “You Should Buy a House and Settle Down.”
Check out the double standards. On the one hand, boomers claim that you’re lazy and don’t work, but on the other hand, they “gently” nudge you to lay the foundation for a house.
Considering how the prices have skyrocketed, buying a house is no longer a simple decision.
4. “Young People Can’t Have Back Pain.”
If I had a penny for every time someone said this to me, I would definitely be a millionaire. Let’s face it: everyone needs to work or study, and to do that, you obviously need to sit for extended periods of time.
With that comes a flurry of back problems that we never asked for. But, whenever you try to explain this to older people, they respond with futile comments about how the young have become weak.
5. “You Have No Sense of Humor.”
To justify sexist comments and racist remarks, you’ll often hear boomers talk about how everyone has become too sensitive. Jokes about violating fundamental human rights are just not funny to new generations anymore.
6. “When You’re Older, You’ll Agree With Me.”
Just when you’re about to win an argument, boomers will take out the “I’m older” card from their arsenal. While being older makes you wiser, it doesn’t automatically mean you’re right about every single thing on Earth.
Admitting you can be wrong is much more discerning in my books, at least.
7. “Video Games Are a Waste of Time.”
First, you’re lazy, then you can’t take a joke, and the final banger is that video games are useless and a waste of time. Perhaps some folks forget that hobbies tend to make you want to live life instead of hating it every second of every day.
8. “You Kids Had It So Easy Growing Up.”
Isn’t the whole point of life to make things easier for the next generation? Boomers have wreaked havoc on the planet, leaving millennials and Gen Z with global warming and pollution.
But that doesn’t mean that we should follow in their footsteps.
9. “You Have to Compromise in Relationships.”
I agree that relationships take a lot of compromise and tons of patience, but that goes both ways. If you’re in an abusive relationship, physically or emotionally, that is not grounds for compromise. Put yourself first.
10. “Young People Today Have No Respect for Their Elders.”
It’s unfair to assume that younger people are disrespectful to their elders. Kids back in the ’40s and ’50s were precisely the same.
The only difference now is that everyone has a phone in their pockets, and it’s all recorded on social media.
11. “You Spend All Your Time on TikTok Doing Silly Dances.”
For some reason, boomers think life should have no fun and only work. Dancing and goofing around has always existed. It’s not new. Let people enjoy, smile, and live a happy life.
12. “I Used to Walk Downtown Handing Out Resumes and Shaking Hands.”
Times have changed and evolved. The job market is very saturated, and inflation has taken its toll. While handing out resumes might have worked in their time, it is not as simple as a handshake anymore.
13. “That’s Just the Way It Is.”
What’s the one thing boomers can’t stand? Change. For some reason, they refuse to evolve and grow with time. If things were a certain way during their lifetime, it doesn’t mean that they should stay the same forever.
14. “Kids These Days Quit Their Jobs When Things Don’t Go Their Way.”
Ah, another classic jab. Kids these days know their worth. They don’t want to work at a place where they’re being taken advantage of or simply don’t see their careers growing. What’s so wrong about that?
15. “I’m Sorry, I’m From a Different Time.”
Many agree that adjusting to the new era is challenging, given boomers are from a different time. However, they’ve seen the world evolve right in front of them.
The willingness to understand things from a different perspective instead of critiquing everything all the time would help bring all the generations closer together.
