BENGALURU: TCS’s headcount dropped by 6,333 in the September quarter. Compared to the year-ago quarter, headcount is down by 7,186. The overall employee strength is 608,985.
TCS EVP & CHRO Milind Lakkad said the company is investing in fresh talent and that investment is paying off. “We saw attrition coming down and we’re recalibrating our hiring numbers and as a result, our total hiring is less than attrition this quarter. This means investments are paying off. We will continue to onboard freshers and honour all offers. There may be delays though,” he said. IT attrition has reduced to 14.9% from 17.8% in the June quarter.
The company is rolling out 100% variable pay for 70% of its workforce, while the remaining workforce will get paid based on performance. Asked about TCS’s return to office policy, Lakkad said, “We have hired many people in the last three years. And for most of the period, they were working in hybrid or virtual remote (mode). We strongly believe that they need to come to work so that the new workforce of TCS will get integrated with the larger workforce of TCS. That is the only way they will learn and understand and internalise the TCS values and TCS,” he said. The company, he said, will continue to assess its work models and adapt based on what works for the customers and employees. Almost 70% of employees have started to come to the office.
Asked about the safety of employees caught in the Israel-Hamas war, TCS said there are over 250 employees and dependents in Israel. “We are closely in contact with our associates. A business continuity plan is in place and the focus is on supporting the community,” the company said..
