For a modern Cape Cod in Morristown, New Jersey, designer Heidi Woodman conjured a kitchen that is equal parts “warm, cozy, and approachable, yet still cool and current,” she says. Woodman embraces natural materials, such as Zellige tiles “for the layers of depth and dimension it provide,” white oak “because it’s so versatile when it comes to customizing the stain color,” and richly veined statuary marble that doubles as art. Patinated knobs from Rocky Mountain Hardware, classic counter stools from Roberta Schilling, and a ribbed glass and solid brass chandelier from Lucent Lightshop add touches of understated drama.
On the waterfront in Cape Cod, designer Liz Caan collaborated with Boston’s Catalano Architects to create a family’s relaxing vacation getaway. The stark kitchen, which opens onto a patio with a fireplace, pool, and additional cooking area, is “meant for a houseful of adults and children all summer long, and all can have a seat at the island or the table,” Caan shares. Peter Dunham Home’s raffia counter stools add a natural texture and pattern to the airy interior, as does the Arabescato marble backsplash and counters from Marmi Natural Stone. Urban Electric pendants and a Knoll Saarinen Tulip table pulled up to a banquette in a Mariaflora linen fabric maintain the interior’s hushed tone. “The idea was to keep it calm and clean, so we didn’t distract from the ocean views,” Caan says.
