Kate Upton is about to become a New Yorker once again. According to the New York Post, the former Sports Illustrated model and actor, who called the city home in the early days of her career, is in contract to purchase a penthouse in a luxury Upper East Side condominium building, along with her husband Justin Verlander, a newly-minted Mets pitcher. The condo, which started out at $20 million in 2021, was last listed at $16.75 million after a series of price drops. Final figures of the sale are yet to be revealed.
Designed by Studio Sofield, architecture firm of AD100 Hall-of-Famer William Sofield, the lavish digs boast 4,141 square feet across five-and-a-half bedrooms, four bathrooms, and three terraces that total 634 square feet. At the entrance, a private elevator leads to lofty thirteen-foot ceilings throughout. Large arched and straight-edged windows abound in the fully-equipped chef’s kitchen, formal dining and living rooms, one of the two primary bathrooms, and their adjoining bedroom which has access to one of the private balconies with spectacular views of Central Park. Other features of the primary suite include dual dressing rooms, a wet bar with a refrigerator and ice maker, and marble-covered floors, walls, and countertops in the bathrooms. The apartment comes with a coveted laundry room complete with a washer, dryer, and sink (an amenity most New Yorkers do not enjoy inside of their apartments) and an extra room that can easily be converted into a office or study.
The concierge building offers its residents a sixty-five foot swimming pool with hot tub, a double-height basketball court, a well-appointed fitness center with yoga and training studios, a piano bar and lounge, children’s playroom, a multi-purpose game room, and party room with a catering kitchen and dining area.
Last month’s massive two-year $86.6 million contract between Verlander and the New York Mets is most likely the catalyst for the New York City purchase. The couple sold their Beverly Hills mansion to actor Timothée Chalamet for $11 million in May of 2022 and had been living in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, since 2021. The World Series Champion and the The Layover star share one daughter, Genevieve.
