Lamborghina credits moving to Kentucky to be a major part of the luck she’s had with finding incredible pieces. “In that area, and the surrounding states like Ohio and Illinois, there’s a ton of random people who have really amazing furniture pieces and just don’t always know their value. So Facebook Marketplace is great there.”
Where and how?
The chair was listed for sale for $50 and located in Cincinnati, a 90-minute drive from Lamborghina’s parents’ home. The family took a day trip in her dad’s Suburban to pick the chair up. When they arrived, they discovered that the seller and her partner owned two Jaymar chairs, and had recently split up. “She kept one, and he took the other one,” Lamborghina says. “So she was selling hers. I sometimes wonder if he sold his, too. Would have loved to have them both!”
By the time she moved back to Dallas months into the pandemic, Lamborghina had amassed a collection of around five to ten pieces of furniture, all from Facebook Marketplace. She ended up renting a U-haul and road-tripped back to Texas with her parents to move all of her purchases back.
Why?
“At the time, my parents were living in this really old, historic home in Kentucky. And when I moved in, they didn’t necessarily have a room for me,” Lamborghina recalls. “But they had this really big game room with a beautiful wood floor and this really pretty vintage chandelier in it.” The space inspired Lamborghina, and she turned it into a studio of sorts. “It was the studio I’ve always wanted, but never had, and it helped me evolve my interior design style.”
With her mother always designing and redesigning rooms in their home, Lamborghina has been around interior design since she was a kid. After getting her own place, she realized that she was passionate about design and decor, and she has her sights set on creating more decor pieces for Blo_oberry next. Currently, the shop sells lamps, and Lamborghina has been experimenting with ceramics and glass beads to potentially roll out new items down the line.
In the meantime, she is still browsing Facebook Marketplace and offering tips to others who are looking to try their hand at scoring some great Facebook finds. “If you do see something you’re interested in, you can haggle! Sometimes, people just want to get rid of it, so the price isn’t necessarily firm.”
