Ever looked at the thousands of amazing products on Etsy and wished your shopping experience came with a little help navigating it all? Well, Etsy just announced that Martha Stewart will be the platform’s first Collections Curator, which means the lifestyle queen is making Etsy shopping easier for all of us.
Starting today, Stewart—long considered the definitive arbiter of the art of living well—will be the online artisan market’s first site curator. “The Etsy Collections Curator Program helps buyers discover some of the very best from our global community of talented artisans,” said Erin Green, Head of Global Influencer Marketing at Etsy. “As one of the most iconic and trusted lifestyle authorities of our time, Martha Stewart was the obvious choice for our first official curator of the year.”
The new role will see the icon handpicking over 100 of her favorite items from Etsy sellers and makers around the world, with the list available to everyone who visits the site.
“I like looking through the vast assortment of beautiful products on Etsy and choosing things that speak to me,” Stewart said about the curation process. “I was selecting items that are worthy, in my mind, of the ‘Good Thing’ stamp of approval,” she said, referring to the name she’s given to any product that meets her standards of functionality, innovation, quality, and beauty. Released on a seasonal basis throughout 2023, the selectively chosen items will include everything from charcuterie boards to all things wedding.
According to Stewart, who has long been a supporter of beautiful handcrafted goods, it was important for her to be involved in this project with Etsy because of her passion for the maker community and her enthusiasm for seeing small creative businesses thrive. “We need to continue to encourage and support local makers,” she said. “I started as a small business. Look what happened.”
Martha Stewart has had a lengthy, successful lifestyle business, beginning in the late 1970s with her private catering and party-hosting services for large corporations. She published her first cookbook in 1982 and continues to publish books on cooking, decorating, weddings, and several other topics related to domestic life. Stewart is currently in the process of writing her 100th book. The holder of many “first” titles, Stewart’s Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia, which is the parent company to her publishing, internet, media, and merchandising businesses, made her the country’s first self-made billionaire woman when it went public on the New York Stock Exchange in 1999. Stewart is also well-known as rapper Snoop Dogg’s best friend, a seemingly unlikely pair that has had a strong business and personal relationship for many years.
