All good things take time, and this sofa was no exception. It took years to get the actual couch in Sydney’s home after that fateful screenshot. “The Muse is the new It-girl sofa, so don’t be surprised when you start seeing it everywhere (if you haven’t already),” she adds. “My friends say that it reminds them of a loaf of bread that they want to bite into and that always makes me smile.”

Design personality in one word: “Iconic, timeless, or functional.”
Are you picky people? “Very much so. We are both designers with strong taste and a sustainability mindset. This makes every design process decision at home a long one.
We like to put everything on the table when it comes to buying new home decor and furniture and we usually end up going for the pieces that have the best balance of function, form, sustainability, and price.”
The perfect couch looks like… A custom-made couch from a local sofa maker in Milan.
How long did it take you to find it? “Four months.”
There are many words to describe the work of Bougie Woogie, the studio based between Milan and Buenos Aires, led by designers Jaz and Mati. Fun is one of the most apt, so you can imagine finding a couch to match such joyful personalities was an adventure. “We moved from a small Parisian apartment to a bigger one in Milano last spring and after arranging all of our current furniture, we realized that the living room needed a BIG sofa to create an ideal chill and social area,” they explain over email. “After months of internet searches and flea market visits around Milano, we visited an Italian sofa manufacturer’s showroom to test and discover some options.”
Like many others searching for a couch, they were drawn in by the charm of a vintage couch. The couple also needed it to fill a handful of roles: a place to chill with some wine, a place to hang out with their two dogs, and a comfortable nook for power naps. “The possibility of having a high-quality, tailor-made one with no years of use for long-lasting life, was also sustainably responsible for us,” they add. “We imagined this sofa as our ‘forever sofa.’ We were happy to know that it was made to order in Italy and that we could choose many aspects of it.”
