Rock royalty Sir Rod Stewart is taking another swing at selling his decadent Beverly Hills estate. According to the New York Times, the “Maggie May” singer is listing the palatial Richard Landry-designed California mansion for $80 million. Stewart paid about $12 million for the empty three-acre lot in 1991. In June, the singer-songwriter put the château up for sale with a $70 million asking price. Per records, that listing was removed last month, and it appears the London native is giving it another go with a new realtor—and a $10 million price bump.
Landry is known for his work with A-list clientele. The architect is the mind behind Gisele Bündchen and Tom Brady’s French château-style home, which is now owned by Dr. Dre. One of his specialties is classical European homes, so it’s no surprise that the façade of Stewart’s main house is fashioned after a European château, with interiors designed to match. Given 28,500 square feet of living space to play with, Landry threw restraint out the window; between the main house and the three-story, 4,500-square-foot guest house, there are 13 bedrooms and 19 bathrooms. “That [guesthouse] would be a main house anywhere else,” realtor Tomer Fridman, who has the listing, told the Times. “But in Beverly Park, that’s a guesthouse. It’s an immense property.”
Inside the foyer of the pastel yellow main house is an elaborate show of classical European style, with a staircase flanking either side of the space, marble floors, pilasters, busts, statuettes, and several oil paintings covering the double-height walls. There is a dining room that seats 20, two fully equipped gyms, a speakeasy lined with green wood-paneled walls atop dramatic Brèche de Vendôme marble floors, and, of course, a tearoom off of the kitchen. “What can I say? It’s bred into the English,” Stewart told Architectural Digest during a 2016 tour of the home. “Every day at four o’clock we have to have our tea.”
The primary suite boasts a seating area the size of an average living room and is lined with French windows draped in traditional curtains. Complementary French doors open up to a terrace overlooking the grounds.
