After entering the market as a DTC furniture company, Sixpenny rebranded to focus on eco-friendly slipcovered seating in 2020. The Brooklyn-based brand believed that people would be drawn to the natural and sustainable materials that compose its line of dining chairs, sofas, and sectionals, as well as the versatility and washability of slipcovers—and they were right. Since then, Sixpenny has been improving the homes of people across the country (including many AD staffers). Following so much success in the living and dining room, the brand has decided to expand their offerings into the bedroom with the debut Sixpenny sleep collection.
“We feel super fortunate to have made an impression on people and for them to have welcomed us into their homes,” states Sixpenny co-owner and chief of design Robert Natale. “It means something we’re making is resonating, as is our messaging on extraordinary comfort and high-quality, natural materials, and we don’t take it for granted. It felt like the bedroom was a natural extension of what we’ve built in the living and dining rooms.”
Much like Sixpenny’s beloved sofas, their new beds, sleeper sofas, and end-of-bed storage benches feature a casual luxury aesthetic, solid wood frames, and a variety of linen, cotton, and recycled faux fur slipcover options. Colorways include earthy neutrals like oat flour, poppy seed, and jasmine rice, as well as richer hues like sugar plum and nectarine dream. “It’s all about slipcovered designs, beautiful fabrics, and that grandeur,” Robert continues. “The proportions make them feel like statement pieces, but at the same time they’re effortless in terms of styling and the way they fit into your life.”
The Sixpenny sleep collection will launch with three beds that serve as extensions of their best-selling sofa models. The Neva bed is recognizable for its thick, exposed French seam, while the Devyn bed boasts clean, contemporary lines, and the Esmé bed has a curvy, Art Deco-inspired feel. According to Robert, the beds are even simpler to use than the sofas because the slipcovers are a single piece that can be laundered or swapped out for a new look as easily as your sheets.
