And you’ll soon need to start a new remodeling project…
We’re expecting our first child in May and we’ll need a nursery. My friends have all been telling me that I can forget about my beautiful designer apartment. I think we can pull off both, though. But yes, eventually the office will morph into a nursery.
How big is the apartment anyway?
Small by some standards, that’s for sure. It’s 875 square feet, with three rooms, a kitchen, toilet, and bathroom. And there’s a balcony.
What did you go with in terms of furnishings?
My girlfriend and I have very similar tastes, in that we like a toned-down Scandinavian look juxtaposed with individual classic Italian and other international pieces that offset the Nordic minimalism. We brought some things with us from a condo we shared, but we also parted with lots of items that wouldn’t work as well with the furnishings in the new space. We now have much more room in the living and dining areas. It was at an auction where we found our dream sofa, the Tufty-Time from B&B Italia, which takes up a lot of space. I designed the large dining table myself which a local furniture maker then created from a single piece of solid oak. With vintage prices sky-high, we decided to buy some new items for the office, including a desk by Ferm Living and a Series 7 chair by Arne Jacobsen. The Lamino lambskin chair is a Swedish classic from Martina’s childhood home. We upgraded the IKEA kitchen with a terrazzo countertop, painted the cabinets the same color as the wall, and added a custom-made bench.
