The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) will hold its first stakeholder consultation meeting on the Digital India Bill as part of his three-day visit to Bangalore, starting from Thursday. This bill has been proposed to replace the Information and Technology Act of 2000, which was drafted twenty- three years ago.
Rajeev Chandrashekhar, Minister of State (MoS) for electronics and information technology will be in Bangalore to meet industry representatives, lawyers, intermediaries and consumer groups among others to discuss the principles of the proposed law, which will be based on and thereby invite the inputs.
These consultations are a part of the Digital India Dialogues that are in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s initiative of developing a consultative approach to law and policy making, the ministry said.
Rajeev Chandrasekhar will also be delivering an address at the Deep Tech Summit – Transformation Through Indigenous Innovation organized by MeitY-NASSCOM Center of Excellence (CoE) – IoT & AI.
It is expected that he will discuss the policy initiatives which are being undertaken by the Centre to spur the deep tech ecosystem and bolster India’s digital economy goals. It is also reported that the minister will launch the next edition of the flagship programme- Healthcare Innovation Challenge at the event.
