Gen Z gets a bad rap at times. Some of it is warranted, and some of it isn’t. Like generations before them, they receive flack for things they want to do differently.
However, in today’s climate, the loud minority of Gen Z seems to want to make it so that we can’t do certain things any longer. Here are ten things Gen Z won’t let us do anymore.
Ignore Climate Change
This is an admirable change that Gen Z is trying to force. In an age where some people claim that climate change isn’t a thing when it’s cold in the winter months, Gen Z is almost forcefully making us not be apathetic about the environment.
This shouldn’t be a divisive issue, but in today’s political culture, it is.
Disregard Mental Health
For boomers and other generations, it was taboo to talk about mental health. You were expected to suffer silently, no matter the issue.
Gen Z won’t allow us to make insincere statements about mental health issues. And that’s something to be thankful for.
Dress Correctly
Comfort is great to have when choosing a wardrobe. However, for many Gen Zers, they want to push that boundary too far, to the point of going out in pajamas.
Regardless of the social setting, they think pajamas are acceptable. If you tell them to wear something a little less casual, it’s met with derision.
Spell Out Full Words
Saving time is great. When it’s done with laziness, it’s something different.
Gen Z seems to be ok using largely acronyms, even though a majority of people don’t know what is being said.
Stay Quiet About Salaries
Older generations once thought it was taboo to discuss money and salaries. This ignorance makes it difficult to know how to manage your finances and identify what you should be paid.
Recent studies reveal that nearly 60 percent of Gen Z supports only discussing salary. That’s a good thing and should be championed.
Use Single-Use Plastics
Single-use plastics are incredibly convenient. They’re also horrible for the environment.
Polls indicate at least three-quarters of Gen Z would pay more for more sustainable products. They also have no shame in forcing that on the rest of society either.
Avoid Work-Life Balance
We’re a society that has always taken pride in hard work. Hard work is great, but Gen Z wants us to have an actual work-life balance.
Their thought is life is short, so we need to experience it all. Working yourself to the bone doesn’t allow for that.
Ignore the Importance of Our Skin
Your skin is the largest organ of your body. Gen Z wants us to remember that and be more active in protecting it versus just being out in the sun.
The American Academy of Dermatology bears this out with a recent poll showing over 50 percent of Gen Z wish they had done more to protect their skin when younger.
Not Having an Opinion About Everything
Gen Z has redefined what it means to have an opinion. They want you to have an opinion about everything. And it better aligns with what they think.
If it doesn’t, they’ll let you know about it or cancel you.
Being Negative
In a catch-all, Gen Z doesn’t want us to be negative about anything. This ranges the spectrum from words we choose to say to our opinions.
Some of that is good, but it’s much too far for others.
