Wipro enters packaged food segment; acquires Kerala’s food brand Nirapara
Wipro Consumer Care and Lighting, a part of Wipro Enterprises, entered the packaged food and spice segment after acquiring Nirapara, a traditional food brand from Kerala. The acquisition of Nirapara comes months after Wipro announced its entry into the food business in India in August 2022.
The Nirapara acquisition could help it become a significant player in the snack food, condiments, and ready-to-cook markets. According to a press release from the company, the Wipro group subsidiary has inked a definitive agreement with Nirapara. The corporation did not, however, disclose the deal’s amount.

With this deal, Wipro Consumer Care joins FMCG firms such as Tata Consumer Products Ltd, ITC, Dabur, and Emami, which are already present in the spices market.
Nirapara is known for its blended spices, especially sambar powder and chicken masala. Launched in 1976, the brand is owned by the KKR Group and operates in daily consumption categories. In FY22, it generated a revenue of INR 100 crores. The annual turnover of Nirapara company is mainly present in Kerala. 63 percent of the company’s spices are sold in Kerala, 8 percent in the rest of the country, and 29 percent in other countries.
The business of the company is largely done in the Gulf countries. In such a situation, since the acquisition of the company by Wipro, now it is expected to increase its reach further. Giving information on the matter, Vineet Agarwal, director of Wipro Enterprises and Wipro Consumer Care and Lighting, said that this is Wipro’s 13th acquisition. In such a situation, with this acquisition, the company will be able to strengthen its presence in the packaged food market.
Along with this, the company will be able to enter the spices market as well. These companies earned a total profit of INR 8,630 crore in the financial year 2022. The company manufactures a variety of products such as wellness products, home care products, electrical domestic and commercial lighting systems, etc. It has a strong brand presence with a significant market share in India, South East Asia, the Middle East, and Africa.
