President Biden is seeking re-election, as most Presidents do. While many would argue that he has returned us to “normal” he faces his fair share of challenges for a second term. Here are ten key challenges Joe Biden faces in the 2024 election.
The Economy is Not Great
The administration loves to claim that Bidenomics is working. Yes, some things have improved, but many people are not feeling it.
Voters often go with their wallets come election time. If Biden wants to win a second term, the administration needs to do a better job at selling Bidenomics.
His Age
Joe Biden was the oldest elected President. He will be several weeks away from turning 82 come election time.
There is no way around this. Yes, with wisdom comes age, but many feel there has to be someone younger who can serve.
Israel
The Israel-Hamas situation has been filling the headlines. Despite his foreign policy prowess, Biden is losing supporters at home because of his handling of the conflict.
He is losing younger voters, as well as some on the left. Biden may need a different approach to shore up support.
Trump is Continuing to Lead in Polls
Despite Trump being close in age, that doesn’t seem to matter to many voters. Furthermore, Trump is leading in polls in battleground states.
Despite the indictments and trials Trump is embroiled in, nothing seems to stick. That could spell trouble for Biden.
History Doesn’t Favor Him
Biden is ahead of only one other recent President in terms of support. That is Jimmy Carter.
History shows us Bill Clinton was at 52 percent in November before his re-election bid. President Obama was at 46 percent. Biden is languishing at 39 percent.
There’s a Lack of Excitement Around Him
There’s often an air of excitement around Presidents running for re-election. That is not the case for Biden.
There is a sense of apathy around his running for a second term. Combine that with poll numbers and things don’t look pretty.
He Has Returned Us to Normal
Many voters went for Biden because they felt we needed to return to normal. Much of that has been accomplished, so what little passion there was for him in 2020 isn’t as strong.
One could make the argument that if Trump receives the Republican nomination, Biden could use that. However, given that Trump is ahead of him in some polls, it’s no guarantee.
Congress is Going After Him
Our government has increasingly devolved into an environment where they actively seek to punish opponents. The likes of MTG want to go after Biden in Congress.
Then, there’s the Hunter Biden fiasco. It all may amount to nothing, but it could turn into something.
He Has a Challenger Now
Seemingly on a lark, Rep. Dean Phillips is challenging Biden. A fellow Democrat, Phillips is 54 and challenging him to make the point we need someone younger.
Phillips has no chance, but it makes one wonder if he’ll inspire someone else to challenge Biden.
He’s Going to Have to Campaign This Time
Thanks to the pandemic, Biden was able to save himself from a lot of heavy lifting on the campaign trail in 2020. That’s not going to be the same in 2024.
Questions remain if he will be able to stand up to the rigors of campaigning for re-election. Any errors he makes will get extra attention, which could hamper his hopes.
