If a cat has nine lives, one has to wonder how many Donald Trump has. The twice-impeached former President has a stranglehold on the Republican Party and is viewed by most as the presumptive nominee in 2024.
While it may defy logic, there are legitimate reasons he will win the presidency again. Here are ten realistic reasons Trump could win the White House for a second time.
People Believe the Economy is Still Bad
Most people vote with their wallets. Although historically, the economy is fine, the perception is that it’s not. Unemployment is low and interest rates may begin to decline.
However, prices are still high in many areas and a lot of people are struggling. If they pin that on Biden, it’s going to be good for Trump.
He Likely Won’t Be in Prison in 2024
Trump currently has four indictments against him. Despite the fact that you feel he’s guilty or not, it’s unlikely he’ll be in prison come 2024 if found guilty.
Trials take a long time, especially when you’re as active as Trump.
The Constitution Says Nothing About Being in Prison
You may think that you can’t run for office from prison. That’s not the case, as nothing is in the Constitution about running for office while incarcerated.
We’ve seen at least two candidates run while behind bars in the previous century. So, it is possible.
Many Republicans Don’t Care if He’s Guilty
Who wants a President who is guilty of the crimes Trump is accused of currently? It apparently has had little impact on Republican voters.
In fact, one can argue it has strengthened his base. Reports show that 20 percent of voters are actually more likely to vote for him because of the indictments. Recent polling also shows his numbers increasing.
The Popular Vote Doesn’t Count
Hillary Clinton won the popular vote by nearly three million votes in 2016. She lost the election. President Biden won by nearly seven million votes but the Electoral College was much closer.
The Electoral College map is much more favorable to Trump.
He Was Underestimated in Previous Elections
In both 2016 and 2020, polling underestimated the support for Trump. He won in the former and was close in the latter.
If similar holds true in 2024, he could return to office.
Biden is Suffering
To say that Biden isn’t a popular President is putting it lightly. He currently has a favorability rating of 38 percent. Trump, on the other hand, is at 42 percent.
With the perceived issues of the economy and other challenges, Biden is struggling to keep his head above water in the polls. If that continues, it could spell trouble for him.
The Republican Base Wants it More
Trump has an iron grasp on the Republican base, and they really want a return to office. The issues we saw in the Speaker race earlier in the year show how he has a firm grip on the Republicans.
They’re willing to tie themselves to an indicted man to take back the White House.
He’s Younger Than Biden
Trump is no spring chicken. He’s 77 years old and will be 78 by the time we go to the polls. However, he is younger than Biden, who comes in at 81 years old.
Although, on appearances, Biden is in better physical health, Trump is younger. That’s a significant concern for many Democrats.
We Aren’t Scared Enough
There is valid reason to be concerned about a second Trump presidency. Claims and statements he has made about what he wants to do are gravely problematic.
However, many have short memories and few are scared about the prospects if even one-quarter of what he want to do comes to fruition.
