There are some things that you probably don’t give a lot of thought to in terms of their cleanliness. You might after seeing this, though. Unfortunately, not all things are really that clean.
In an online forum, people share the truth about some things that are nastier than you might realize. Here are ten of their top instances.
Restaurant Ice Machines
When you go out to eat, you probably just assume that the ice machines are cleaned regularly. Spoiler alert: they aren’t…in any restaurant…ever.
One person said, “I used to work at Subway, I don’t think the ice machine was cleaned for years.” Someone else said, “I worked at several different gas stations and I can confirm the ice machines were not cleaned at any of them.”
Dementia
Dementia is an illness that affects your whole body, not just your mind. One commenter said, “It’s not just quirky memory problems, your brain controls every bodily function.”
Another said, “Your brain dissolving slowly and being semi-aware that you’re totally losing it is, by far, the worst way to go.”
Bowling Balls
Most people worry about the shoes when they go bowling. It turns out that you should be worried about the bowling balls, too.
One man said, “I read an article of a study of bowling alleys. Researchers found “higher than expected amounts of fecal matter in the finger holes of the common balls. So there was an expectation – and that got blown out of the water.”
Hospital Floors
Yes, hospital floors are cleaned and sanitized daily, but think about how much happens on those floors in between cleanings. A nurse said, “I’m an RN, but our floors aren’t clean. I can’t believe how many folks will allow their children to sit or play on the floors or just generally treat them like they are sterile.”
They continue, “I don’t even wear my work shoes to my own house. The other day I spilled a few drops of tea on the floor where I work. I gave it a very light wipe with a cloth and the cloth was black.”
Crohn’s Disease and Ulcerative Colitis
These digestive diseases are nasty and turn your life upside down. Plus, it’s not just needing to go to the restroom a lot.
One person said, “Thanks to drug company ads, most people think it’s just about going to the bathroom a few times a day. There’s never any mention of fissures, fistulas, fevers, extreme pain, extreme fatigue, depression, anemia, drug side effects, joint pain, painful and horrific surgeries, mouth sores, skin disorders, etc.”
Remotes
People just automatically assume that remotes are clean and sanitized, especially at hotels, but they aren’t. Wipe down your remotes.
One person said, “I’d say all TV remotes are bad. People don’t wash their hands or their remotes enough.”
A former hotel housekeeper said, “I used to be a housekeeper at a hotel. I can confirm they’re nasty. We usually just put them back in place, we didn’t wipe them with our cleaning chemical or rags.”
Cancer
Cancer is one of the predominant killers in the world, and going through it is far from pretty.
One person said, “People know it’s nasty. People know it’s nasty as can be. But here’s the thing. Going through it myself, I could have never imagined how nasty it truly is.”
Luggage
How many times have you wiped down your luggage? People don’t consider all of the ick your luggage rolls over.
One woman said, “It gets rolled throughout the world, often in gross airport bathrooms where floors are literally wet with pee, and then when people get to their destination, their first thing they do is toss it on the bed to unpack.”
She continues, “Come to think of it; this also makes hotel comforters that never get washed even more disgusting.”
Belts
Have you ever wiped your belt down with a disinfecting wipe? Maybe you should. One man said, “Think about it, it´s basically the only piece of clothing you never wash. And you always have to touch it after you use the restroom and before you wash your hands.”
Another person said, “I’m a germaphobe and this is the one post in here that I hadn’t thought of before. It seriously made me cringe.”
Kids
They can’t help it, but there probably isn’t anything on the planet nastier than kids. A preschool teacher said, “Kids with colds who do not know how to blow their noses or cover their coughs and sneezes can be bad. Sometimes they just leave the snot on their faces or wipe it on their clothes.”
The teacher continues, “They can produce a mind-boggling amount of snot. The awful gross things kids will willingly put in their mouths and then share with others.”
