An interim report by the Professional Standards Authority for Health and Social Care (PSA) on the General Medical Council’s progress in meeting recommendations made by the review of the Manjula Arora case should be published, the chair of the review has urged.
The independent review, published last month,1 found that the GMC had incorrectly applied a legal test when considering the allegations against Arora when it suspended the GP for a month for dishonesty over her use of the word “promised” when requesting a work laptop. The GMC “missed multiple opportunities” to assess whether the allegations were serious enough to be referred to a tribunal, the review concluded.
