A consultant obstetrician and gynaecologist who claims that he was victimised for raising patient safety issues in midwifery and maternity care has lost his whistleblowing case at an employment tribunal.
Martyn Pitman, who is being supported by the BMA, was sacked last March after 20 years as a consultant at the Royal Hampshire County Hospital in Winchester. But Judge Jonathan Gray at the tribunal in Southampton said that the “overarching reason” for his treatment was his “communication style” and “not the message he was trying to convey.”
