UK public services including general practice, hospitals, and adult social care are stuck in a “doom loop” as a result of quick fix policy decisions and years of underinvestment, a think tank has warned.
In its annual report on the state of public services, the Institute for Government said that health and care services were performing worse than they were before the pandemic and were in a much worse state than in 2010 when the Conservatives took office.1 Unless serious action is taken to improve productivity, services will remain in a “perpetual state of crisis,” it warned.
