He arrived in the UK in the 1960s and opted to specialise in obstetrics and gynaecology. In 1969 he entered into general practice, served the local community, and continued to pursue his special interest in gynaecology with clinics at St James’s Hospital, Leeds. Mahendra retired in 2002, when he was diagnosed with prostate cancer. After his initial treatment, he did part time work as a medical officer for the Department of Work and Pensions.In his spare time, he was an avid photographer and was a licentiate of the Royal Photographic Association; he won many awards for his beautiful wildlife portraits and landscape shots. He was also a committed Freemason, becoming the master of his lodge in 1995.Mahendra was a devoted family man, who adored his wife, Bronwen, and his four children…
