bmj;379/dec09_5/o2950/FAF1faAfter junior jobs in Stratford, Leamington Spa, and Northampton Michael Harold Draisey (“Mike”) was appointed a general practitioner in Newhaven, where he served the community devotedly for half a century. Not only was a beloved senior partner but was the police surgeon, lifeboat doctor, Newhaven port doctor, and an inspirational GP trainer over many decades. He was known to be calm, kind, a good listener, and an excellent physician by the generations of patients he looked after. He was the epitome of a family doctor, and the Newhaven lifeboat crew provided the guard of honour at his service. Mike leaves two sons, a daughter, and a grandchild.
