GPs are still experiencing problems with the handling of their pension contributions by Capita’s Primary Care Support England (PSCE) service almost five years after the National Audit Office (NAO) identified repeated failures, doctors have told The BMJ.
In 2018 NAO highlighted a string of problems with the PCSE service, including inaccuracies and missing documents affecting GP pension records, delays in transferring medical records, and an inability to handle demand in customer support centres that replaced the majority of former local and regional support offices.12
The BMA, which criticised NHS England last year for extending Capita’s contract to run the service3 until 2025, said that while there had been some improvements, there remained “considerable problems.” It said there were “thousands of GPs” who have been unable to access accurate information about their pensions records, leaving them unable to make informed decisions and vulnerable to high taxation …
