Dementia and coronary heart disease
People with coronary heart disease are at increased risk of both Alzheimer’s disease and vascular dementia, particularly if the heart disease first became apparent at a younger age. Among 400 000 participants in the UK Biobank study, risk of a new diagnosis of dementia during 13 years of follow-up rose by 25% for every 10 years of decreasing age at the onset of cardiovascular disease (J Am Heart Assoc doi:10.1161/JAHA.123.031407).
