Sujeet Jha moved from India to the UK in the mid-90s to qualify for the membership of the Royal College of Physicians, specialise in endocrinology, and hone his skills as a diabetologist. Single minded, he pursued his aspirations, working in training roles across England including West Sussex, Somerset, Cardiff, London, and North Lincolnshire, gaining his membership in the process.
Sujeet returned to India and very quickly established his credentials in diabetology, as a diabetologist and head of endocrinology at the Max Hospital. His passion for his chosen specialty and his dogged pursuit of research and academia rapidly placed him in the enviable position of being one of the leading diabetologists in Delhi.
He set up the clinical research programme at Max and became involved with Imperial College London, the UK Medical Research Council, the UK National Institute for Health and Care Research in the area of diabetes and metabolic diseases. He published numerous papers in peer reviewed journals, including Nature and Nature Genetics.
An ardent academic, he established core medical training at Max with the Joint Royal College Training Board. He developed links with the RCP and established Max as an examination centre for the MRCP(UK) Part 2 Clinical Examination (Practical Assessment of Clinical Examination Skills—PACES), the only centre in north India.
His premature death left a devastated array of family and friends. He leaves his wife, Vinitaa, and two sons, Aryan and Arnav.
