A campaign to advise older patients and their carers how to reduce the risk of urinary tract infection (UTI) has been launched by NHS England in a bid to reduce hospital admissions.
In the past five years there have been over 1.8 million admissions involving UTI in England, most of them in people 65 or over. Last year, of 147 285 admissions with a primary diagnosis of UTI, 56% were in the over 65s and almost 12% in the 80-84 age group.
