Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Animal remains one of the most debated Hindi films of all time.
Kiran Rao has revealed that she would love to watch Ranbir Kapoor starrer Animal as so many people seem to have liked the film.
Filmmaker Kiran Rao is still interested in watching Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s ‘Animal’ in spite of whatever misunderstanding happened between the two regarding their alleged statements about each other in their respective interviews. Kiran said that she’d love to watch the Ranbir Kapoor starrer as it was massively enjoyed by the audience.
Kiran was talking about the decent response her film Laapataa Ladies has received, when she pointed out that it’s rare for both critics and the audience to like a film. She also stated that nowadays the audience is more inclined towards action-packed films while the critics don’t always necessarily like those kind of movies.
“Laapataa Ladies has gotten so much love, I am grateful. Even the critics have liked it. When the audience likes a film, it’s often not necessary the critics will. The audience likes action-packed, VFX-heavy films these days. Films like Animal. I want to watch the film, it’s necessary. It has done so well because people have loved it. I’ve heard that Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s craft is really good. Ranbir (Kapoor) is also a good actor. It will be an interesting watch for me, people seem to love it,” Kiran told Lallantop in an interview.
Kiran Rao’s comments on Animal come a few months after she denied making any statement on Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s films and also shared her thoughts on his remarks about her ex-husband Aamir Khan.
“I have never commented on Mr Sandeep’s films because I have never seen them. I have often spoken on misogyny and the representation of women on screen. I have talked about it on various platforms at various times. But I have never taken the name of any film because it is not about the specific film. Why Mr Vanga has assumed that I was talking about his film you’ll have to ask him. I have never seen his film,” Kiran told The Quint.
On Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s statement that Aamir himself did misogynistic songs like ‘Khambe jaisi khadi hai’ back in the day, she said that her ex-husband was one of the few people who had apologised for it. “There are very few people who would look back at their body of work and apologise for doing something problematic in retrospect,” she added.
In 2023 while talking at a session, Kiran Rao had called for gender sensitisation, citing an example of a study by Tata Institute of Social Sciences, according to TOI. The study had revealed that both on and off screen, women and queer representation was largely stereotypical. She then reportedly cited Kabir Singh as an example of how films that “glorify stalking do exceedingly well.”
