The film, which also starred Akshay Kumar and Sunny Deol, was released in 2002.
The outcome was disappointing as the film tanked at the box office.
More than two decades ago, a highly anticipated, star-studded film hit the screens, backed by extensive promotional endeavours. However, despite the producers’ best efforts, the movie’s release proved disastrous for the careers of its ensemble cast, and its songs struggled to make an impact in the entertainment industry.
The movie Jaani Dushman: Ek Anokhi Kahani, featured a cast of 22 popular stars. In a bid to ensure the film’s success at the box office, the creators employed various strategies, embellishing it with a compelling storyline, action sequences, and superpowers. Despite their efforts, the outcome was disappointing as the film did not perform well at the box office.
Jaani Dushman indeed featured an extensive ensemble of 22 stars, which included prominent actors like Sunny Deol, Sunil Shetty, Akshay Kumar, Arshad Warsi, Sonu Nigam, Aditya Pancholi, Raj Babbar, Armaan Kohli, Manisha Koirala, Sharad Kapoor, Siddharth Ray, Rajat Bedi, Rambha, Kiran Rathod, Pinky Campbell, Aftab Shivdasani, Amrish Puri, Johnny Lever, Upasana Singh, Aman Verma, and Shahbaz Khan. Armaan Kohli’s portrayal of the character Ichchhadhari Naag was a central element of the film’s storyline.
Jaani Dushman was directed by Raj Kumar Kohli, who merged the narratives of the earlier Jaani Dushman and Naagin films to create this movie. He believed that by presenting the combined storylines to the audience, the film would become a major blockbuster. Unfortunately, this strategy did not yield the expected results.
The production team invested a significant sum of Rs 18 crore in creating this film 21 years ago. Regrettably, despite their efforts, the film did not fare well at the box office, resulting in substantial financial losses for the makers. Media reports indicate that the film failed to even recoup its budget, with a total India-wide earning of only Rs 11 crore.
Jaani Dushman had notable implications on the careers of several individuals. Sonu Nigam embarked on his acting journey with this film, which marked the comeback of Armaan Kohli, who had previously appeared in Kahar in 1997. Surprisingly, this movie also marked the end of Rajkumar Kohli’s directorial career, as he retired from filmmaking following the film’s failure. Sadly, the film’s lacklustre performance had a lasting detrimental effect on the careers of Armaan Kohli, Sonu Nigam, Siddharth Ray, Rajat Bedi, Rambha, Kiran Rathod, Pinky Campbell, and Aftab Shivdasani.
