Green-tech has provided green infrastructure products to a primary school in Wales to create an educational green space for students.
Cowny Borough County Council, in partnership with social enterprise Wild Elements, selected Ysgol Ffordd Dyffryn (YFD), a primary school in Llandudno, for the project due to ‘severely grey infrastructure’ and ‘lack of green space.’
Green-tech supplied everything but the trees for the project, including 45 Hedera helix ‘Woerner’ living ivy green screens and 45 bespoke planters in three assorted colours.
Gareth Lloyd, head teacher of YFD says: “We felt the products offered by Green-tech were one of the few that we were satisfied to have green infrastructure installed on a Centre Based Child Care education estate.”
The living green screens provide secure evergreen barriers with low maintenance and easy installation.
A Mona irrigation watering system has been supplied to provide 100% water efficient and cost-effective irrigation, working as a reservoir to hold and distribute water to the plant’s roots when needed.
Lloyd continues: “We intended for the ivy screens to provide an adequate source of natural material shading for the children. We also wanted the ivy screens to be a space for the children to play, hide and immerse themselves in their games. It has made a huge impact to the children’s wellbeing and is greatly appreciated.”
The YFD project comes after the success of a project in Cardiff under the same Welsh Government grant.
