The ‘best of the best’ office plant has been announced by plants@work alongside its fellow podium contenders in alignment with National Plants at Work week, raising awareness on the positive benefits indoor foliage can offer.
This year plants@work has changed formula, opting for a vote on the best office plant of the last 10 years, with contenders comprising of previous winners of the Favourite Office Plant of the Year.
This list was voted on by a panel of judges via plants@work.
Monstera
A multi-season genus of nearly 50 species, the Monstera is a common choice of office plant due to its low maintenance nature and ability to grow in shade,
It is colloquially referred to as the Swiss Cheese Plant, a reference to the perforate leaves.
Spathiphyllum
A low maintenance evergreen with glossy green leaves that prefer being in bright areas out of direct sunlight, with limited tolerance to shade, the Spathiphyllum is more commonly referred to as a peace lily due to its serene stature and delicate white flowers known as spathes, typically blossoming in spring and summer.
Garden designer Claudia de Yong, who voted for the Peace Lily, says: “It’s a great low maintenance choice, a wonderful plant for removing toxins from the air and is almost impossible to kill!’
Philodendron
A large genus of rainforest shrubs and climbers, its pinnate leaves will occasionally appear heart-shaped.
This Araceae can be suitably kept in shade and requires consistently moist compost from spring to autumn and a more sparing water schedule throughout winter.
Michael Perry – more commonly known as Mr Plant Geek – who voted for the Philodendron says: “It’s durable and easy going, yet very attractive to look at. The perfect office plant.”
In the past decade, plants have become a popular office décor choice. Plants at Work Week coordinated by plants@work aims to raise awareness on the benefits of giving space to plants in the office.
