Tarla’s story is fascinating because this stratospheric culinary stardom wasn’t planned so it’s surprising that despite the match of Rich material to relevant experience this film rarely sparkles. Tarla remains well-intentioned but middling

Piyush Gupta and Gautam Ved have penned a story based on Tarla Dalal’s real life. Their story and screenplay are slow-paced rather than fast-moving. Also, in today’s times when recipes are available on YouTube, other social media and all over, the relevance of cookery books may not be appreciated by the youngsters. In other words, although the subject is inspirational, the lack of relevance robs it of its fullest impact. A biopic of this kind should’ve been replete with emotional moments, but they are completely missing. Also, several scenes are lengthy and, therefore, boring. The duo’s dialogues are natural. On the whole, Tarla is an ordinary fare.

The two-hour film is saved from being a drag with Hashmi’s terrific turn as a traditional home-grown husband who thinks he is being progressive, but who expects to be acknowledged and thanked at every turn. Qureshi as Tarla is efficient and pleasant but never quite as flavourful as we would have liked her to be. And this makes the film even more by-the-numbers than it should have been.

In conclusion, ‘Tarla’ serves up a decent cinematic treat, reminding us of the power of pursuing our passions and breaking free from societal constraints. It’s a culinary adventure that celebrates the legacy of a remarkable woman whose perseverance was the secret ingredient for her success.

Piyush Gupta chooses simplistic storytelling instead of giving it a nuanced touch. However, it is by no means that the film isn’t good enough. It is very simple, and just as heartwarming as a comfortable home-cooked meal devoid of fancy things. He keeps the narrative light and breezy. It is only at the end that things get a little melodramatic, but Gupta keeps his hold intact in the narrative.

Are you someone who dreams of doing something big but doesn’t know what it is? Have you seen someone you love struggle to achieve their dreams because of societal boundaries? If so, you’re going to love this film! In the end, all we can say Tarla was the feminist film we didn’t know we needed.

When I started watching Tarla, I had already started comparing the movie to Meryl Streep’s Julie & Julia. I was very clear in my mind that it would be nothing close to the 2009 release. To my surprise, I found Tarla to be a good one time watch. If you love watching movies based on the subject food, then you must give this one a try.

Concluding my review on Tarla, Huma Qureshi and Sharib Hashmi starrer is a light-hearted drama which is not overly dramatic. But feels a little stretched in some parts. Huma and Sharib also performed quite beautifully. Tarla is a feel-good movie but it lacks conflict.

So what’s the final take? Well, though, Tarla is predictable in parts, the journey is an enjoyable one. Choose what you wish to eat while watching it. Popcorn or some of that delicious recipe of Tarla that you can make easily at home.
