Cillian Murphy is still up for a ‘Peaky Blinders’ movie, although the details remain uncertain. During a recent ‘Actors on Actors’ chat with Margot Robbie, the topic of a spin-off movie came up. Murphy expressed his openness to the idea, saying, “I’ve always thought that if there’s more story to tell…” Robbie, a self-proclaimed fan of the show, eagerly agreed, pointing out, “Of course there’s more story to tell! You rode off on a horse! Like, what now?”
Having portrayed Thomas Shelby for nearly a decade, with the series concluding in April 2022, Murphy’s involvement in a movie was announced in 2021. Showrunner Steven Knight mentioned in 2022 that he was close to completing the script, planning production to commence in 2023 in Birmingham, where the real ‘Peaky Blinders’ once roamed. However, updates have been scarce since then.
Knight’s plate is quite full at the moment. He recently took over as the head writer for Disney and Lucasfilm’s upcoming ‘Star Wars’ movie featuring Daisy Ridley’s Rey. Murphy, fresh from Christopher Nolan’s ‘Oppenheimer,’ has just finished filming another historical drama, ‘Small Things Like These,’ directed by Tim Melants.

While Murphy insists that ‘Peaky Blinders’ wrapped up perfectly in six seasons, he remains open to a spin-off movie. During his chat with Robbie, he emphasized his openness, stating, “I’m always open to a great script, who wouldn’t be?”
The conversation between Murphy and Robbie took place after the simultaneous release of their films, creating a summer cinematic phenomenon dubbed ‘Barbenheimer.’ Despite the clash, Robbie stood firm on the ‘Barbie’ release date.

‘Peaky Blinders’ ended with its sixth season in April 2022, leaving Tommy’s future uncertain. Fans eagerly anticipate the spin-off film, with Knight having confirmed its development last year but keeping casting details under wraps.
In the midst of all this, Murphy revealed earlier this year that his roles in ‘Oppenheimer’ and ‘Peaky Blinders’ convinced him to quit smoking. Meanwhile, the BBC has teased fans with first-look images of ‘This Town,’ a new drama series from ‘Peaky Blinders’ creator Steven Knight.
