In May, Robert Pattinson marked his 37th trip around the sun, and his birthday bash turned into an unexpected ‘Twilight’ reunion when director Catherine Hardwicke spilled the beans on the ‘Happy Sad Confused’ podcast.
“Strangely enough, I went to Rob’s birthday party recently. I kinda crashed with my friend Toni Collette, who had just done a movie with him,” spilled Hardwicke. “We had a fun thing, and then Kristen crashed it too. That was just a few months ago, and it was just like, ‘Oh my god!’ We all hugged each other—like, this is so crazy and cool.”
Stewart, seemingly out of the loop, questioned the bizarre birthday invasion: “Catherine? Rob’s birthday? What’s going on?” To which Hardwicke coolly responded, “I kinda crashed it with Toni.” Stewart, unapologetically, chimed in, “Well, I crashed it too.”
According to Hardwicke, Stewart’s excuse for her uninvited presence was as nonchalant as it gets. She claimed to have just “rang the bell at the gate” to check if it was “cool” for her to join the party. Pattinson’s response? A casual “of course.”
The impromptu gathering unfolded more than a decade after Robert Pattinson and Stewart’s real-life romance wrapped up and 11 years post the conclusion of their vampires vs. werewolves saga.
Hardwicke, reminiscing about the old ‘Twilight’ days, spilled some tea on Pattinson and Stewart’s audition chemistry during the podcast. “I could tell when they were doing the chemistry read, the biology scene, at my kitchen table. I saw the sparks were flying so much,” she revealed. “It totally makes sense because they’re both, like, so indie—indie music, indie authors, writers, films. They had all that stuff together.”
As the actors have moved on in their personal lives, Pattinson expecting his first child with girlfriend Suki Waterhouse and Stewart engaged to screenwriter Dylan Meyer, it seems the past has been buried. Stewart, despite not making the guest list, was welcomed at Pattinson’s celebration.
